Project 2 - Unicorn

Designing a simple stylised unicorn is one of my personal projects. I wanted to create a character simple and sweet for my portfolio, to show all styles of design and CG work that I'm able to create.

He hasn't got a name, but I had fun sketching him out whoever he is!

Project 1 - Pathfinder

Pathfinder is a short collaboration project I'm currently working on as a Concept Artist and CG Artist.
Alongside KimBob I designed the interior of the space ship which will be shown in the short, with a group of VFX artists editing later and comping actors into the ship. It's a pretty big project, and with comments from the director throughout here's the final outcomes of all the assets I designed!

I much prefer characters and stylized pieces in my work, so I found this style of design
difficult to begin with, but I feel creating pieces like this will expand my abilities in my art, and i'm pleased with how the concepts turned out.

Disney Princess Colour Analysis

This is something I found really interesting. The image was found on http://everettpatterson.blogspot.co.uk and explains clearly how important strong colour theories are within character design, as just with a simple choice of colour and placement you can clearly see which Disney Princess is trying to be portrayed.

With simple unique combinations of colour you instantly without thought associate this piece with a known character. This is an amazing way of making your character recognizable.

Disney are a fantastic company, and as I'm sure many would agree I have no clue how they manage to create such perfect colour palettes. Nevertheless, I hope to incorporate this theory into my future work!

Okapi Work Flow

For my dissertation recently completed I used a practical case study as research. This involved me using different materials during each stage of design, using traditional pencil and paper for the base and then rendering lighting colour and perspective in digital media. I chose 'Adobe Photoshop CS6' software and used a 'Wacom Bamboo Pen and Touch'.

I really found this to be a practical way of designing personally. Using pencil for the base design allowed me complete control of the line work and form creating a base image I was fully pleased with, before then moving onto software to quickly fill in base colours and finally lighting.

I was pleased with the simplistic final outcome of this, as it was only a small study and has ended up as one of my most successful pieces! I aim to paint more frequently as the year progresses, and will be putting my designs and pieces up soon!

So it's time to start blogging...

So as a CG Artist it's time for me to actually start using this productively. My aim is to post up every week on how my projects and personal work are going, showing my work along the way!

E4 Dog Chase Sting

Over the past 6 weeks I have been working on a collaborative project alongside another artist and animator, creating a 10 second e sting for the TV channel E4. Overall I'm very pleased with the outcome, and here are the main model and assets I created for the sting!
