Waking up to an orange?

Time for some more drawing.

 (initial sketch.)

I was sitting in my living room thinking what I'd like to draw on the weekend, and I came up with nothing. Luckily my sister was there to answer this question, and replied with '....bat'. So that's what I did.

Fruit bats are my favourite kind of bat, probably because they look like foxes... which look like dogs. Anyway, after finding some reference images to get some good ol' inspiration  I found an image which made me think of doing a piece with a bit of perspective to it, something I've never really tried properly!

Still a working progress at the moment, but the concept is a sleeping fruit bat who's woken suddenly to come face to face with a rather large orange... which interests him a lot.

(line work in progress)

I'll keep posting him up throughout the process!

Imagine FX Pin-Up Art

So I came across this book today whilst in Cardiff, perfect for my upcoming project!

Although I've already painted the promo for my character, this book has so many techniques and tips that I think i'll go back and re paint her one. Mainly this book is going to be excellent for the final posing of my alternative model character, as its full of information on how to create a recognizable pin up image (male or female actually!) showing lighting, expressions poses and colour. So glad I found this book, especially as it has one of my favorite artists Andrew Hickinbottom in it, an artist I will definitely be using for reference in later projects... but again i'll write about him later, so much to say and so little time.

Lets go painting!

So very recently I decided to start painting a face. I haven't painted with traditional paints for years, and well I've never really ever properly painted digitally... so here we are!

Heres a WIP shot of what I've done so far tonight, pretty pleased with it so far! The aim is to finish a simple portrait of a woman just to get my skills up to scratch before using the techniques on my later work.

I'll keep posting the progress as I go through the stages... whenever that is. I do a lot of stuff.

Project 4 - Alternative Model

I've always found alternative models interesting, and as the human form is always a useful anatomy to know, I decided that my last project would be to create a female alternative model to add to my portfolio.

This range of characters and forms will benefit my show reel as it shows that I understand how to design and create a variety of different styles and types of models.

After looking into a variety of different CG Artist's (which I will later put up! ) I decided upon a more stylized approach to the form, and here is the process and final result!

Project 3 - Creature

(

Here is a amphibian species which I designed. The species would be around 10ft tall, and be able to mainly live on land yet frequently hunts in the lakes nearby using its strong back legs and tail to navigate through the depths.

This is a collaboration project with an animator who will rig and animate a walk cycle for my model. The idea was to design a unique creature which will need a lot of small detailing and texture so that I can use a lot of sculpting programmes for the detail.

This project was again to widen my opportunities through my portfolio, showing that I can design my own creatures and model to a high standard. But first, the designs!

I had a lot of fun with this project, as it was the first time I'd ever used 'thumb nailing' to begin a design process, a process I will definately use in the future because it really expanded my thought process and I got some very unique silhouettes out of it.

Again, this guy doesn't have a name, but by he looks of it, he really doesn't need one.

Project 2 - Unicorn

Designing a simple stylised unicorn is one of my personal projects. I wanted to create a character simple and sweet for my portfolio, to show all styles of design and CG work that I'm able to create.

He hasn't got a name, but I had fun sketching him out whoever he is!
